Nothing says spring like everyone’s favorite seasonal task: spring cleaning. But why is this job a spring thing anyway? Maybe it’s because the season of rebirth makes us yearn for a clean slate or at least a clean apartment. But once spring is finally here, we’d all much rather be outside enjoying the warmth of the sunshine and the longer days. Instead, we spend a whole weekend turbo cleaning our house. Take a big bite out of your spring cleaning by getting some of the tasks done this winter so you can plan on more relaxation this spring.
The Bathrooms
The bathroom is a super place to start your journey into winter cleaning because it is a huge germ factory. In fact, during the cold and flu season, you should give the bathroom a deep clean a few time, especially after any illnesses. Give the sink and tub a thorough scrubbing, including cleaning the drains. Clean the whole toilet, not just the bowl, and don’t forget to get the dust and dirt hiding behind it. Next, go through the medicine cabinet or closet. Get rid of any half-used bottles of shampoo or body wash that you didn’t care for, any cosmetics and medicines that are expired, and anything else that you’re hanging onto but just not using. Finally, if you haven’t changed your toothbrush recently, do it now.
The Kitchen
The next room you should set your deep cleaning sights on is the kitchen. The holiday season of early winter tends to be a time when the kitchen sees a lot of use, but it’s so busy that we often only do a surface clean. Now that we’re into the doldrums of winter, get into all the nooks and crannies. Pull everything out of the cabinets and drawers to be cleaned and sorted. Throw out anything that’s expired and donate anything that you don’t really need or use, including duplicate items or appliances that never get touched. While they’re empty, thoroughly clean the cabinets and drawers. Next, pull out appliances and clean the dust that has collected behind or under them. Don’t forget about under the fridge – use the vacuum to get the accumulated dust, hair, and fur. Next, clean the undersides of the table and range hood to get any dirt and grease that’s hiding there. Finally, clean the little things that you take for granted but that might be hiding germs, like the doorknobs, drawer handles, and the telephone.
