We love our pets, and we wouldn’t trade them for anything—not even the cleanest house on the street. However, it’s still exhausting to have to lint roll hair from everything; clothes, chairs, couches, you name it. Many times homeowners are not fully prepared for additional cleaning that comes with owning cats and dogs.

Worry not! Our short guide below will let you in on some tips to tackle cleaning with pets.
Golden Rule #1: Fur will get everywhere.
Short-haired pets are included in this rule. All animals with fur shed, although it’s true some shed less than others. The best line of defense against fur-coated furniture is regular vacuuming and lint rolling of your floors and furniture, and brushing of your pets.
But even this will not remove EVERY trace. If you are worried about a cat hair coated couch when your friends or family come to visit, investing in removable furniture covers are a good idea.
Golden Rule #2: Anything left out will find its way to the floor.
You might have been able to get away with leaving shoes on the chair or a glass of water on the table before, but that’s incredibly risky with pets. Anything remotely interesting within reach will likely find its way to the floor, thanks to the insatiable interest of our furry family members.
Keep anything valuable (aka, anything you do not want chewed or broken) well out of reach. Even the most disciplined of pets can be naughty when their owners are not home or not looking.
Golden Rule #3: Muddy paws and accidents are unavoidable.
Chances are, your dog or cat will have an accident or become ill from something they ate (which is sometimes anything and everything within reach). Likewise, trips outside to a muddy yard will result in a trail of tracks indoors. While there’s not much that can be done to prevent this, being prepared is the best option.
Keep floor and carpet cleaner, as well as a scrub brush or other cleaning tool, on hand for accidents. Prompt treatment reduces the chance of stains or lingering odors dramatically. And for muddy paws, having a mat or rug inside of the door to trap some of the mud helps, but your best bet is to keep a mop by the door and keep your playful pal contained until their paws have dried or you can wipe them off.
