Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and many of us are already dreaming of the warm festive day spent with family and friends. But is your home holiday-party-ready or do you still have an overwhelming amount of prep to do? Allow our to-do list to ease your stress a little and help you plan for a few days of party prep this weekend.

Kitchens

The kitchen is where most of the action happens, so make sure you take some time to prepare it against culinary disaster. Start by checking your appliances: make sure the stove’s thermostat is accurate, the microwave is clean, and the freezer and refrigerators have room for all the extra food prep and leftovers. If your kitchen is small, consider setting up extra tables in another room to serve food and leave the kitchen as a prep space only. Even if it isn’t small, designate a specific area that will be a serving station and don’t use it for food prep. Finally, make sure that you have all the tools and cookware that you need and that it is all in good condition. Buy or replace anything that is lacking.

Bathrooms

Make sure your bathroom is guest-ready by filling soap dispensers and making sure you have nice, clean towels on all of the hooks. If any overnight guests will have their own bathroom, add some toiletries in case they forgot them: a new toothbrush and extra toothpaste, a scented candle set, and even a nice bath soap or bath bomb to use. Also, don’t forget to stock up on the essentials, like toilet paper.

Guest Bedrooms

If you’re going to have overnight guests, create a cozy space for them. Clean up the spare bedrooms, especially if they are often the sleeping spot for your pets, and remake all the beds with clean sheets, even if they haven’t been used.  Add some small comforts to the room for your guests: having a cozy robe to curl up in is a nice, welcoming touch for any guest, and adding a small coffee maker in the room will help keep your kitchen free for food prep longer on the morning of.

Odds and End

Last but not least, focus on the finishing touches. Set the table with beautiful plates and linens. Consider getting a pumpkin or small potted plant to use as a centerpiece. Coordinate the colors between the main table and any smaller tables or serving areas. Finally, add comfy, warm throw blankets to the couches and beds where guests might want to snuggle up before and/or after dinner.
