The winter season is a difficult time in which to keep your home looking tidy and clean. This is especially true when it comes to your entryway. It seems truly impossible to keep this space clean of snow, slush, salt, and dirt and when it begins to accumulate, it can often seem like there is no end in sight. This can lead to messy floors and puddles inside. How can you possibly keep your entryway clean during the winter? Keep reading for some easy and manageable tips!
Shoe Trays
The easiest way to track in dirt and filth in your home is with your footwear, and this is especially true of winter boots. They have deep treads to help the wearers from slipping on snow and ice, but this causes layers of gunk to accumulate up there. This is later brought inside when you come to defrost from the freezing winter temperatures. How can you possibly prevent this?
One of the best ways is to keep shoe trays in your entryway in the winter months. These are watertight trays with raised edges that you can store your dirty shoes on. Place your wet, snowy boots directly on this tray so that when the snow melts, it stays on the tray and not on your floors. You can also install mats inside and outside entry doors to prevent yourself from tracking wet snow through your house when you get home.
Open Storage
Another problem you must contend with during the winter season is stuffy winter coats. After you come in from outside, you may be tempted to stuff your coat in the closet to keep it out of sight and out of mind. This is a horrible idea! If your coat has snow stuck to the exterior, sticking it in the closet is the worst thing you can do. Hang your coat instead in an open area so that it can get the air it needs to dry. You should also do this with snow pants, mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves. One easy way to get this done is to simply leave your closet door open when you hang up your winter clothes. Even better, you could opt to hang coats on pegs or racks to allow them to properly dry out. Avoid using baskets or bins to store winter clothes, as these will not allow them to dry properly.
