One house cleaning rule of thumb is that you can use bleach for more than making white clothes brighter. Of course, you shouldn’t mix bleach with other cleaning products or douse a natural stone countertop in bleach. However, you can use bleach to clean multiple surfaces. Here are five of them.
House Cleaning and the Garbage Cans
Although garbage cans keep trash from cluttering up your home, you should still clean the inside of them. Trash cans hold much smelly food, so it only makes sense to clean them out periodically. Wash your garbage cans out with soapy water and then deodorize and sanitize your cans with bleach and water. Let the solution sit for two minutes before rinsing.
The Litter Box
The rule of thumb here is that you don’t want new guests to know that you have a cat unless they can physically see the cat or maybe notice some cat toys. The point is that your guests shouldn’t smell the litter box once they enter your home. Clean the litter box by washing it with sudsy water and then rinsing it. Then, wipe it down with a water-bleach solution and let the solution sit for five minutes before rinsing.
Your Kids’ Toys
Toys are germy. While you’re not looking, children are curious about how toys taste, so they place them in their mouths. Is it shocking that toys are germy and full of bacteria? You can use bleach to clean hard toys with nonporous surfaces such as legos. If any of your kids’ toys are hand-me-downs, you especially want to clean them. Make sure to rinse the toys very well with water after using a small amount of bleach to clean the toys.
Moldy Surfaces
If there is mold and mildew anywhere in your home, bleach removes these stains, but it also kills the fungus. You can use bleach to remove mold and fungus from your bathroom tiles. Use equal parts bleach and water in a spray bottle and let the solution sit for fifteen minutes before scrubbing it off and rinsing.
Patio Furniture
It’s spring which means that families will spend time out on the patio. If you own any plastic patio furniture, you can use bleach and water to clean and sanitize these surfaces. Use about 3/4 of bleach with about a gallon of warm water. Make sure that there isn’t any runoff near your garden.
