The average home is filled with tiny nooks and crannies that often go overlooked during the weekly cleaning routine. Your hardwood floors might be spotless, but are other important cleaning tasks left undone as a result? Discover four aspects of your home that require more attention than they receive.
Baseboards
Baseboards are located near the floor, which means they can easily accumulate dust and dirt, especially if you have pets. Use a vacuum attachment to clean the loose debris from the baseboards, then scrub with a towel and all-purpose cleaner. Scrub gently, so that you don’t remove any paint from the boards.
Washer/Dryer
Mold and mildew quickly builds up inside of your washer and dryer if left uncleaned. For your washer, simply run an empty cycle with ¼ cup bleach. Ensure that the washer is on the hottest setting. To maintain the dryer, make sure that the link trap is clean after each use.
Your Mattress
It’s not enough for your to change your linens every other week, you have to maintain the mattress as well. Consider investing in a mattress protector that safeguards your bed from liquids, mites, and bugs. Most of these covers are machine mashable and can be applied and removed easily.
The Knife Block
Your kitchen is full of bacteria traps due to the amount of food and beverages handled in the space. One of these areas included the knife block. To clean, simply tip the block upside down and shake to release any loose food particles. Soak the block in hot water for thirty minutes or more to cut the grease, and allow the block to air dry upside down.
